Beach house summer

We are here!  & ready for our beach house summer!

A little back tracking...

About six months ago my two best girlfriends and I planned a trip up to our beach house for Memorial Day weekend...husbands and all 8 kiddos included!  We have been best friends since 6th grade.  21 years y'all! Goodness!  They all arrive tomorrow and I can't hardly stand it!

Because we come up to the beach every year for the Fourth of July, Steve and I  decided why not just extend our vacation extra long!  So here we are at the beach for 7 weeks!  We come up to our house here several times a year but have neverrr stayed this long and I am so psyched.  Steve works from home..and my job is these it worked out perfectly.

We arrived Wednesday and yesterday was our first day of beach fun.  We went straight to the beach in the morning and the girls had a blast.  And boy does coffee taste better on the beach.

It's is also so nice to just come right back up to the house for lunch and naps and then head back out for the afternoon.  Yesterday after nap, we headed down to my grandparents house, who also live here.  My mom bought Brynn her own Moana fishing pole, so.. we had to test that out of course, and they have the perfect backyard for it!

I am so excited for a summer full of great memories.

Mother's Day

Mother's Day was so nice and now it's Monday and back to reality.  Oh how I wish every day could be Mother's Day orrr at least once a week.  Sleeping in, waking up to a home cooked breakfast by my minis, handed my chores or work to be done..catered to all day.  Now that's a permanent life I could get used to ;)

I usually host Mother's Day every year at my house, which normally involves cooking out and swimming in the pool with all the family.  This year it occurred to me that its my Mother's Day tooo! So remind me again why I need to do all the grocery shopping and cooking and preparing for this alone? haha  I told Steve that this Mother's Day I wanted to go shopping at Target alone and wanted him to take care of the dinner with my brother.

So, Saturday I took off aloneeee to target and shopped and browsed all the isles and it was glorious!  I picked up my mom's Mother's Day presents and then picked up a new bathing suit and some other things for our beach trip next week.  I seriously think I forgot what it felt like to walk into a store alone. Any store!  That night Steve went and got all the groceries for the next day.

Sunday I slept in until 8:15.  Would have tried to make that last a little longer but, church.  I woke up to the girls cooking me pancakes.  Jolie was stirring batter and Brynn was drawing me roses on my pancakes with icing :)  Everyone got dressed and we headed off to church and even got a nice Mother's Day brunch there!

After we got home, Jolie took a long nap while Steve and Brynn prepped all the food.  They were so cute together in the kitchen and she helped him every step of the way.  Around 2 everyone came over, swimming, grilling and drinks commenced.  It was so nice and relaxing to not be in charge.  My mom and I just plopped our self down with a nice corona and watched the girls swim.

I was pretty proud of Steve's spread.  He did such a good job!

I seriously do not know how this is my 4th Mother's Day already!  It feels like just yesterday this was the part of my life that I was dreaming about, and now here I am.  I waited my whole life for this.  I always wanted to be a wife and mommy, more than any career or job really.  If you ever asked me as a child what I wanted to be when I grow up ..."a mommy" was my answer.  Even more so, I dreamed of all the girl babies...girls I could play dress up with and buy all the hair bows.  I am so thankful that I get to spend all my days at home with them making memories day in and day out.  God definitely made me to be a mama, not just in the the perfectly dressed up, perfect lighting professional photo moments...but in all of the messy moments too.  Like tantrums, and wondering how they can destroy a room in 5 seconds flat or how they are able to make me so dang tired!  It's definitely the hardest job, but the one I am most proud of.

B is for butterfly

Brynn knows the letter B pretty well..since her name starts with it and all. But...I didn't want to skip over it in our curriculum because it went with butterflies and I looove teaching the butterfly life cycle. Brynn is into all things bugs.  As much as she is a girly girl to the fullest she is always outside looking for beetles and caterpillars and any bug really to catch and keep for a while.

Back in my kindergarten teacher days, I loved teaching the life cycle and ordering the caterpillars to watch the whole butterfly metamorphosis.  I just knew it would be right up Brynn's alley.  I actually ordered her butterfly garden as one of her birthday gifts.  She got such a kick out of this..she woke up every single morning with her first words being ..."I need to check on my caterpillars." Jolie was pretty interested too...and would walk by them all day saying "buuuug....yuck! ewwww!" & once they were butterflies she would say all day "Hiiii flyyyyyy, awwwww"

I have to say, having the butterflies at home was much more fun than in the classroom.  Here we didn't miss a thing and we actually saw them make their chrysalis and actually watched every one of them hatch and open their wings for the first time.  And at barely four Brynn can tell you anything you want to know about butterflies from their chrysalis, to their scales to how they taste with their feet and use their proboscis to drink.  I mean proboscis and metamorphosis from a preschooler.  She must have an awesome teacher ;)

The whole process was about two weeks and I was pretty sure that Brynn's attachment was going to be an issue on release day.  But, much to my surprise she was very happy about doing it and couldn't wait.  We decided to take them to our favorite park to let them go because its pretty much the prettiest place we know.  We stopped by Mc Donald's to bring lunch and eat first.  Cool mom points???

Brynn grabbed each one out and loved every second of them landing on her before they took off.  Oh my heavens these pictures just melt me to a puddle.  Pure happiness and joy on this girls face.  Nothing she loves more than a good dress, nature and animals.
