ONE in a Melon Party

I can't believe I spent the past two months working tirelessly on this party and just like that the day has come and gone.  On August 14th, we celebrated our sweet Jolie's first birthday with the cutest party and our closest friends and family.  When I started thinking about Jolie's party and trying to pick a theme, I tried to think of something that said summer to me...and something that went with using our pool, because's August, in South Florida which equals 1,000 degrees.  I was stuck between flamingo's and watermelon, and ultimately chose watermelon after seeing the flamingo theme everywhere.  Not to mention, this child's love of watermelon is out of this world.  And thus, the "ONE in a Melon" theme was born.

The Menu:
Sandwich Bar with all the fixins'

Honey Ham
Smoked Turkey

Baby Swiss
Mild Cheddar
Pepper Jack

Yellow mustard
Spicy mustard

Mini loaves: Multi Grain & Italian
Butter Croissants
Lettuce, Tomato, Pickles, Red Onion, Banana Peppers

BBQ, Potato, Jalapeno

Watermelon Slices

Party Favors:
For Party favors I picked out these giant bubble wands from target in all the party colors and added a tag that said "Thanks a Melon, Jolie"

The party was half indoors and outdoors.  All the food was inside because of again, the heat...and I set up some tables for seating and a drink table (water, sweet tea and some watermelon painted mason jars) outside.  The kids spent all their time between the pool, sandbox and swingset...which made party games not a necessity! win win!

We chose to hire a photographer to photograph the party.  I always feel so much pressure to photograph all the decor I made, and capture all the special moments of the party... that I feel like it takes me away from being in the moment.  I was excited when Steve agreed that it was good idea to hire someone to take that job over for me.  I was able to just focus on my friends and family and my baby girl, which was amazing.  It was so nice to just be in the moment on this special day. Jennifer was amazing, and she captured this day perfectly!

No party is complete with out the cake and this one did not disappoint.  I was initially freaking because my usual cake girl was out of town, but my brothers co-worker came through and made us the most beautiful cake! Even better than I could have imagined!  It was the perfect focal point when entering the party.  Just gorgeous!

Our sweet Jo girl girl loves her food, as evidenced by all them juicy rolls, but her party was her first taste at sweets.  It totally rocked her world and she did NOT want to let that cupcake go! She ate it down to the last bite and was even mad when I tried to take her away from the crumbs!

It was the perfect day celebrating our sweet Jo.  She was so happy and it was an all around great day with friends and family!  We survived our first year with two children! & our sweet Jolie has made life as a family of four even better than my wildest dreams. Jolie you are heaven sent and we thank our Lord and Savior every day for choosing us to be your parents! Happy Birthday sweet girl, you are  one in a melon!

Decorations: all handmade by myself.

catch up

I totally need to play catch up with this little bloggy blog!  It's been crickets over here...but I can't say I'm mad about it.  It is summer time and we have been playing outside and spending lots of time in our pool and swinging on the swing set and going for walks.  Just basically loving playing with my babies and soaking up their suntanned skin and sunscreen smell and popsicle sticky fingers.

I totally missed Jolie's 11 month update on here.  #momfail
but here is her cute little monthly picture, which I still did manage to get done :)

So, what have we been up to lately around here!

Brynn celebrated her besties birthday at a little girl spa! It was so stinking cute with mani/pedis, facials and friendship bracelet making.  It was seriously the sweetest thing ever.

Like I said above, lots of pool time, sprinkler time, splash pads...basically anything involving water cause it is so gosh darn hot!

Brynn Started Ballet and my gosh its just the cutest thing ever!  I totally had this exact vision when I found out I was gonna be a girl mama.  & I get so giddy every time its time to dress her up in this little get up each week.

Lots of walks, stroller walks, wagon walk, beep beeps and tri cycles you name it.

Jolie started walking the week before her birthday and well thats just the cutest thing!  I totally love the little drunk baby walk.  It is my fav!

We celebrated Jolie's first birthday...more on that later this week.

Finally got Brynn past her little scared of the dark/nightmare phase and celebrated with pony rides!
